How much Extra Load created by Ev Charging on National Power Grid
10 August, 2022
India has 40% clean energy in its Grid(as on 2022) The Renewable power generation is growing much faster than anticipated and by the year 2030 The national Grid power will be almost 75% .Now (year 2022) total non-fossil( renewable) based installed energy capacity is 157.32 GW which is 40.1% of the total installed electricity capacity of Indian National Grid .The country’s installed Renewable Energy (RE) capacity stands at 150.54 GW (solar: 48.55 GW, wind: 40.03 GW, Small hydro Power: 4.83, Bio-power: 10.62, Large Hydro: 46.51 GW, nuclear energy: 6.78 GW. as on 30.11.2021). This brings the total non-fossil based installed energy capacity to 157.32 GW which is 40.1% of the total installed electricity capacity of 392.01 GW. In line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s announcement at the recently concluded CoP26, the Government is committed to achieving 500 GW of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by the year 2030.
Roof Top Solar program Phase-II for accelerated deployment of solar roof top systems with a target of 40 GW installed capacity by the year 2021-22, is also under implementation. The scheme provides for financial assistance of upto 4 GW of solar roof top capacity to residential sector and there is a provision to incentivize the distribution companies for incremental achievement over the previous year. As on 30.11.2021, a cumulative 5.7 GW solar roof top projects have been set up in the country. Against the target of 4GW for Residential sector under Rooftop Solar program Phase-II, allocation of 3.4 GW already made to various states/ UTs and 1.07 GW already installed.
Off-Grid PV Solar power Applications Off-Grid Solar PV installed plant of the Government are Few MW , using them for Applications such as for Solar Street Lights & other government facilitated & applications. Besides this Private companies also had set up off grid PV solar plant using them for their exclusive uses.
1.5M Electric Vehicles playing in India
India is now has home (as on 3.8.2022) nearly 1.5 million Electric Vehicles. As per Govt. figure total number 13,92,265 Electric vehicles are playing on Indian Road .The three Wheelers in India (mostly 3-W are lead Acid battery based) currently stand at 7.93 lacs units ,57 % of all categories electric vehicles . Nearly 5.45 lakh E Scooters or bikes have found a home in India, It stands 39 % of total EVs sold in India. So far Electric Two wheelers have seen bigger growth than other model. The number of four Wheelers are 54, 252 units, constitute electric Electric Cars buses and other Small 4 Wheel E Loader , Majority are Electric cars in this categories.
As per Our estimation, daily 7 to 10 GW Electricity required for Charging EVs: As per analysis of Our “Team EvCharZo”, the total estimated 7 MW power is required to charge-up all Electric vehicles ( installed capacity for 1.5 Million Evs ), if they go daily for equal charging as per their installed Battery Capacity. But in real life situations, some Ev owners may be either using their Ev for few/ lesser KM running per day or some day much more than installed Battery capacity. Similarly Transporting Public EVs like E-Buses , Taxies , E Auto will use Ev Range twice or more by getting recharged at Fast charging Stations. In such a Situation ,we have calculated in below table, either the case of Over or under utilization of electric vehicles Installed Range capacity in KM. We have taken two time Range trip per day for E Buses & E-Auto. While for personal E scooters average running is taken 65 km, EV cars 100 KM daily. Such as realistic data is hard to collect/ compile. The actual utilization varies and depend on actual running on roads. Herein below is average /practically real life situation is assumed for running of Electric vehicles.
